Over the weekend I traveled to the East Coast to look at colleges I’ve been considering attending in the fall. What started as an anxious trip turned into one of the most marvelous I have experienced. With the aid of entertaining myself with a spiritual book we are reading for yoga teacher training, driving through three states completely different from home, and spending considerable amounts of time contemplating my future, I feel peaceful.
Along with sharing some highlights from exploring Ithaca and Boston, I wanted to share a little more about the more personal and spiritual aspect that came from this trip; the progress in healing and self-actualization by learning about oneself more deeply.
Ithaca and Boston
Ithaca is a bustling town surrounded by miles of rural natural beauty. Boston is engulfed by the city, and the architecture is charming and vibrant. In Ithaca, we spent a rainy morning getting coffee and touring Ithaca college before driving through Massachusetts and seeing many frozen lakes before arriving in Boston. Exploring Boston, we toured another school and went on a two-hour walk around the city.
Intuitive Guidance
Over the past year, I have slipped into routines unknowingly. Each day has felt chaotic and different, though stepping back I see how every day was similar, only chaotic enough that they felt different. I was in a constant state of fear about the next thing to take place. Something I have been tuning into on this trip is understanding the difference between something my intuition is telling me to do versus what my desires claim to be. It is the difference between wanting one thing and needing something else. I do not recall an experience where I confidently followed my intuitive guide and ended up in a place that was unsatisfactory. Following my immediate desires results in instant happiness, though I am unable to sustain a content lifestyle. Many times when I ignore what I know is best for my well-being and do what I want, I end up less satisfied than I was before. What I call my intuition leads me to live more sustainably and fulfilled.
The Power of the Number One
Over the time I spent in Ithaca and then Boston, I kept seeing the numbers 111 show up. 111 is considered to be angel numbers and is associated with intuitive guidance. Some believe that they are sent by unknown energies as messages holding advice. I have simply found these numbers relevant because I journaled on this topic a week ago and it has been a prime subject on my mind. For all I know, I could be noticing these numbers because I have been thinking about what they are associated with so much lately. I just thought It would be cool to talk about the association. 🙂
New Scenery Evokes Inspiration
In general, whenever I travel, I find it easier to disconnect from my emotions. Instead, it is easier to relish in the present and not feel dictated by my thoughts. I associate traveling with temporarily leaving a reality, and it inspires me with more confidence to change the way I have been doing things. This is a common theme present wherever I may go, to Seattle, backpacking, and even visiting local destinations that are unfamiliar. I feel grateful and privileged to have been able to experience this in New York and Massachusetts.
