For a week my friend and I traveled to Princeville on the island of Kauai. We stayed with some of our friends and while there I was reminded of how important having a sense of community is.

Judgment and Projections

June presented themes of letting go of judgment and the first step in this was realizing that many of my judgments were projections, at least the ones that were causing me extreme wells of emotions. Leading up to this trip I had been growing angry toward many people who I love. I was getting annoyed at their problems and would sometimes feel second-hand embarrassment.

Unity Through Community

However, almost all of these judgments I was having about others were related to myself. Having conversations with those who I do not see often, and my friend who I have known for 15 years helped me to recognize that we are all the same. I saw the people around me as myself. It is like we are all mirrors reflecting the same person. We are all so flawed and so whole at the same time, and the judgments I was holding were promoting separation. The anger I held towards others was poisoning myself. To empathize brought me peace on this trip.

My friend and I did a lot of exploring; we went on hikes, kayaking, found a waterfall, and much more. It was amazing traveling with her, we’ve literally grown up together and have seen each others journey’s the past 15 years. I did not take many photos but here are some that I love.
