Astrology has been used as a form of divination for thousands of years. I am personally not educated enough on the topic of astrology to share specific details about any of the upcoming full moons, but I practice mindfulness by noticing and acting upon the new, waxing, full, waning, and dark moon.
I felt the energy of this past full moon greater than I have for any other. Leading up to it was a grandly emotional week; I had many transformative experiences the weekend the full moon began, and dramatic changes in my life have begun happening since the waning period has started.
The purpose of this piece of writing is to share ways I enjoy celebrating the full moon and gaining deeper insight into myself. If you would like to learn more about astrology or this specific moon that passed, I recommend watching Donna Stellhorn.
The Full Moon and the Beach
On the day I celebrated the full moon, I was still feeling embodied by the experience I had exploring in the mountains the previous day. It left me wanting to spend more time outside, connected to the earth. It was a cloudy day, though I felt inclined to go to the beach. The sandy shore I went to, usually crowded with people, was empty. The only other individuals present were surfers in the water.
On the beach, I stayed warm in my oversized fleece hoodie, journaled, and crocheted. The sound of the waves crashing was soothing. I did not follow a specific prompt while journaling, but looking back at my entry now, it seems to have a theme of exploring and understanding personal values and experiences.
Cloudy Waves
After sitting for about a half-hour, I decided to plunge into the ocean. The water was shockingly cold and the height of the waves left me no choice but to go underwater sooner than I would have wished. The buoyant water reflected the cloudy sky above, breaking at a gap with the gleaming sun. Spending quality time in the natural environment leaves me feeling insignificant, though somehow makes existing seem more significant.
Divination and Driving
I trudged up the many steps I once walked down to the beach to get to my car. Later that day I went on one last adventure to a road overlooking my city, the ocean and tiny street lights in sight. I pulled a tarot card and it resonated greatly with me. I watched the cloudy sky begin to dim, a cast of gray light showering the structures below. I read in my car before driving home where I cast a simple spell, writing a list of things I wanted to let go of and burning them to signify how I am ridding them from my life; making space for things that will benefit my mind and body.
